Legendary internationally known Bo Stief is one of the great bassists who helped found the unique Danish bass tradition. Bo Stief is an open, passionate and versatile musician and composer who knows no musical boundaries. He masters both the double bass and the 5-string bass virtuosically. Stief plays in a personal, singing and lyrical way and is inventive and groundbreaking at the very highest level.

For the past 50 years, Bo has played on music stages all over the world with the biggest names: Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Don Cherry, John Scofield, Steve Swallow, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Eddie Harris, Chet Baker, Toots Thielemann, Pili Pili with Angelique Kidjo and more. On the Danish scene, Stief is also active. Various names such as, Sanne Salomonsen, Palle Mikkelborg, Kaspar Winding, Stig kreutzfeldt, Halberg larsen, Sebastian, Midnight Sun/Rainbow Band and Søs Fenger, Santa Cruz, Bobo Moreno have also benefited from Bo’s musicians.

Since 1980, Bo has led his own groups with great success: Bo Stief 5, Chasing Dreams, Dream Machine, Soundtrack and Bo Stief “One Song” and Bo Stief New Dreams. Bo Stief’s melodic and diverse compositions create an atmospheric soundtrack to today’s universe. Bo also appears on the Grammy-premiered production “Aura” with Miles Davis. Bo Stief has taught at all Danish music academies since 1980 and held workshops in the wider world. He has guided several groups, including Ibens Sabia. Inside The Whale and Have been a mentor to Jonathan Bremer (Bremer and Mc Coy.) Magnum (Lucas Graham) Thomas Fonnesbæk oma. Since 2001, Stief has led the Danish young talent project Playground Live. Words are a new part of Bo Stief’s concerts. Bo Stief’s own poems are now an important colour.
