This is a special concert where Emil de Waal Old News pays tribute to the late clarinetist Elith “Nulle” Nykjær, who we unfortunately lost at the end of 2023.
In the spirit of Nulle, we continue to play our common music, which has deep roots in tradition, but at the same time also manages to embrace freedom, openness and innovation. This concert will be a celebration of the creative collaboration we have had on our five albums together with Nulle.
Emil de Waal Old News presents a modern interpretation of Danish and American classics, taken from some of the most important composers, including Sidney Bechet, John Mogensen, Hans Henrik Ley, Aske Bentzon, Kenneth Knudsen, Fats Waller, Bessie Smith and Sven Gyldmark.
The orchestra, led by drummer Emil de Waal, brings together a quintet of Danish stars across genres and genders in a quintet with: Jacob Anderskov (keyboards), Randi Laubek (vocals), Gustaf Ljunggren (everything) and not least the newest addition to the tribe Henriette Groth (clarinet)
