Saxophone

Look forward to a terrific afternoon at the shipyard in good company with the remarkable Cecilie Strange. In 2023, she has managed to collect both awards and nominations, including the prestigious Carl Prize 2023 in jazz, and ‘Jazz recording of the year’ at the Presto Music Awards, both awarded for her composition’s work on her latest album, BEYOND. In 2023, Strange was nominated in two categories for DMA Jazz – as composer of the year and jazz release of the year. And now Cecilie Strange comes to ÆJF.

Her musical journey began at the age of 12, and her education in Odense under the renowned jazz saxophonist Hans Ulrik and in New York under star saxophonist Chris Cheek has shaped her unique and deep tenor sound.

Cecilie Strange has a natural understanding of the Danish and Nordic landscape, and this is reflected in her music creating Scandinavian sketches. With a glaring melancholic palette of timbres, her compositions simultaneously manage to shine with hope and light, making her music both touching and inspiring.

The quartet, which accompanies Cecilie Strange this afternoon, consists of experienced musicians, each of whom has made their mark on the international music scene. Drummer Jakob Høyer, known from collaborations with names such as The Raveonettes, Jacob Anderskov and Claus Waidtløw, brings a dynamic rhythm section. Pianist Peter Rosendal, well known from Six City Stompers with Mads Mathias, will contribute with his virtuoso piano skills. Finally, Swedish bass player Thommy Andersson is responsible for the solid bass that binds the quartet together.

Look forward to an afternoon filled with unique musical experiences, where Cecilie Strange and her quartet will take you on a journey through soundscapes that unite tradition with innovation. A concert that promises not only to entertain, but also to enrich the soul with musical depth and nuances.
